In-Home Support Services (IHSS) is considered as alternative to out-of-home care, such as
nursing homes or boarding and care facilities. The goal of the IHSS program is to allow low
income aged, blind, and disabled persons, including children, who are at risk for out-of-home
placement, to remain safety at home by providing payment for care provider services.

The service is customized to individuals with severe disabilities who are receiving Medicaid and who need assistance with various activities of daily living, health maintenance activities, and personal care and homemaking tasks.

The types of services which can be authorized through IHSS are housecleaning, meal
preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and personal care services (bathing, eating, dressing, etc) accompaniment to medical appointments.
